\r\nWe want you to forget two words: 48KHz and 16-bit. That’s old school. Instead, we want to introduce you to two new words: 96KHz and 24-bit. Now don’t panic – you don’t need to be a techno geek like us to get this because we’re going to explain this to you right now. The first number is the sampling frequency, simply represents the average number of audio samples (segments of continuous audio analog wave) taken in 1 second. The second number is the bit depth, representing the amount of data in each sample. If this was too much data for you, just consider that today music and audio professional increasingly operate in a 96KHz / 24-bit audio environment.
