Most homes today are equipped with HD TVs and computer monitors. Some have Blu-ray players. That means that when you take your old analog tape (such as VHS or Hi-8) and convert it to the traditional old standard definition DVD or file, your home-based electronics equipment will either display it as standard def using a smaller portion of the screen, or will force to magnify the image to HD. This process, when done improperly (as is with most consumer electronic devices), creates a very soft and unfocused picture, magnifies any imperfections such as grain and noise (which are very frequent in older analog media) and often times creates an unnatural aspect ratio (when people appear unnaturally stretched or squeezed). “I needed to convert a few 8mm tapes to DVD. I tried going to Target and then CVS in Hollywood, but neither offer that service any more (I was told it was partly due to Kodak going out of business).
