VIDEOTAPE TO HD
\r\n
What formats do you convert?
We handle almost all analog, optical, magnetic and digital formats in house. Most popular formats we handle include: VHS, VHS-C, SVHS, WVHS, Video 8, Hi-8, Digital 8, BetaMax, DV, MiniDV, DVC, DVCPro, DVCPro HD, HDV, MicroMV, U-Matic, U-Matic SP, Betacam, Betacam SP, Betacam SX, Digital Betacam, MPEG IMX, XDCAM, HDCAM, D5 HD, HDCAM-SR, CD, DVD, MiniCD, MiniDVD, Blu-ray, Mini Blu-ray, HD DVD, LaserDisc and more. We handle all video standards – NTSC, PAL, SECAM, PAL-M, PAL-N.
Do you do everything in-house?
Yes, we do everything in house. Your tape would not leave our facility. Aside for tape repair, which is done by an outside vendor, and upon which we advise to the customer.
I have a format not on your list. Can you help?
We do have an outside vendor we use for truly rare formats, such as 1”, 2”, M-II, D-2, D-3 and the likes. We would always do our best to help.
Do you transfer copyright protected content?
It depends. We do not transfer any mass produced content that is copyright protected. Some exceptions would be content that is no longer mass produced and/or discontinued, or foreign content that can no longer be purchased. It must be for personal use and enjoyment only.
I have a large library. What’s the best way to get a quote?

How much of a drive space would I need for HD conversions?
Typically, 1 hour of video in HD would equal about 100GB (vs. about 30GB per 1 hour of SD). You would need larger drive space for HD video.
What are the benefits of going to HD?
In one word – experience. The longer answer is that today all consumer electronic devices are geared to HD, which has been around for over 10 years now. There is also currently a beginning of a trend to go to 4K, which is 4 times the resolution of HD. So in reality, it is very probably that you and your family and friends would enjoy your family videos on an HD viewing platform. Most TVs do a very bad job with internal up-conversion (up-scaling SD to HD). Most people who will do this at home without the proper broadcast tools will also not reach the same results. We are basically enabling you to enjoy and experience your family memories in the best possible way adjusted to today’s technology. Feel free to email or call us with any additional info.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nPlease also go HERE to learn more about SD to HD aspect ratio conversion
What drives do you recommend for long-term storage?
Our rule of thumb is that you do not want to buy any drives that you can find in the large retailers. Think of those mostly as disposable drives. Your VHS tape has lasted 30 years. Those drives will doubtfully last 5. That is a very important consideration. While not a direct advice, we like companies that make performance oriented drives – the kind that is being used by professionals for critical media. Some of the companies we like are: LaCie, G-technology, Glyph, CalDigit and a few others. We are a LaCie authorized reseller, however, any of these brands in our opinion are good. When it comes to your family memories, don’t buy the cheapest drive you can find. It really pays off to invest this one time in a much better quality product.
I’m concerned about the long-term storage prospects of my videos. What other strategies do you have?
The idea behind long-term storage strategies is to keep it cost-effective and not over-do it. We generally recommend combining two media types – whether it is drive and cloud; or drive and DVD; or magnetic (LTO) and cloud. It truly depends from one person to the next, however, when you add one more layer of protection and redundancy to your library archiving, you are truly mitigating a potential catastrophic loss. It is also important to consider the overall cons and pros of each media. For example, drives could get deleted or go bad. DVDs are very sturdy. Cloud storage can one day be deleted or breached and may have an ongoing cost. LTOs are designed to last for several decades, but are not as accessible. Also, customers should keep in mind that electronic media, whether flash / solid-state or rotational components, is far more sensitive to the elements and susceptible to damage than magnetic and optical legacy media, so long-term storage conditions are far more critical. If you have any questions, please Contact Us. There is not necessarily a simple fit-all solution.
I am a Linux user. Can you transfer my videos to a Linux drive?
Yes, we handle EXT2 / EXT3. We currently do not handle EXT4.
Why do you have several options for NTSC to PAL conversion?
We do offer 3 different NTSC to PAL (and vice versa) conversion options with different pricing. The reason for the different options is that not all costumers necessarily want to pay for the best possible quality, which requires using very expensive tools and making special arrangements, all of which are very time consuming. Regardless of the level of standard conversion, each option is of professional quality. Feel free to contact us with additional questions. Contact
Is ProRes the best video format?
In short – no. Let’s start that ProRes, which is a compression standard, has many flavors, going from the lowest quality of proxy to the highest quality of 4444 XQ, however, it is important to note that ProRes is still considered to be a lossy compression. When archival quality is desired, there are the uncompressed options, such as 8,10 and 12 bit RGB uncompressed video, as well as DPX, EXR, Tiff sequential files and others, which provide what is defined as “uncompressed trillions of colors” type of standard. Having said all that, given ProRes wide acceptance as a format on both Mac and PC systems, as well as the relative smaller file size and overall high quality image, it is probably one of the most popular and efficient formats out there, and should suffice for most users and purposes, including many professional uses. Feel free to contact us with additional questions. Contact

FILM TO HD
\r\n
What formats do you convert?
We handle 8mm, super 8mm, 9.5 mm, 16mm and super 16mm. We do not handle 35mm.
Do you transfer the film in-house?
As of right now, we transfer all film in house, and intend on doing this for the foreseeable future.
Do you transfer the film in-house?
As of right now, we transfer all film in house, and intend on doing this for the foreseeable future.
Tell me more about your film transfer.
We use a telecine (film to video) system that scans each and every frame to HD, which takes much longer, and the result is far better quality. Not only that, but the light source is made to obscure some base-originated scratches, which would result in a much better viewing experience. As a result of the scanning technology we utilize, the tension on the film is non-abrasive and is set to optical scan results. With very few contact points with the actual film, it will remain in the same shape it was brought to us.
What type of files do I get?
For PC and Linux users, we provide AVI files and for Mac users QuickTime ProRes.
Can I get a DVD or a Blu-ray?
Yes, we provide DVD and/or Blu-rays upon request.
Do you transfer sound?
We use a computer software that reads the 16mm scanned film and converts to audio. Since there is no way of doing this with 8mm, we have no way of providing the same high quality results for 8m film with sound, and therefore we do not offer that service. However, if you have 8m with sound and need help in converting, please contact us. Contact
Why transfer to HD?
Film, unlike older analog (and even digital) standard definition videos, is an optical medium. As such, it does not exist in, or conform to, any particular video resolution frame size. Think of film as video resolution independent or agnostic. Clearly, 8mm film has a much smaller optical resolution than 16mm, however, when you transfer film to HD, you are able to capture better and higher resolution and image quality per each pixel or line of video frame. If you transfer to SD, you are committing the transfer to a lesser picture resolution and quality forever. We strongly suggest that you consider only HD transfers for your film.
Do you combine reels into larger spools?
No, we leave each reel intact. We do not consolidate reels.
Do you splice and fix broken splices?
Yes, we surely do. We also add leader when necessary to ensure we capture the very first frame.

AUDIO TRANSFER
\r\n
What formats do you convert?
We handle most popular audio formats, including audio cassette tapes (compact cassette), mini cassette tapes (mini-cassette), micro audio cassette tapes (microcassettes), vinyl album records (LP, 45, 12-inch LP), digital audio tape (DAT), DA88, CD, miniCD, ½” reel-to-reel (multitrack, magnetic tape), ¼” reel-to-reel (reel to reel audio tape) and others.
Do you do everything in-house?
We sure do. Your audio media would never leave our facility.
What files do I get?
High quality AIFF or Wave. We can also provide internet-ready files, such as MP3 upon request.
Can I get special audio formats?
Yes. We can create most audio formats, such as AAC, AC3, Dolby AC3, PCM, MPEG-2 Audio, WMA and others. Additional charges may apply. Please contact us [here] with any questions about audio formats.
What is High-resolution (HR) audio?
While definition varies, with some calling HR audio anything better than CD, we stick to the much higher standard of 24 bit rate and 96KHz sampling rate. When we transfer your audio media, you are getting a much higher sampling rate and much better bit depth rate per sample. The general theory is that the more samples you take from a given analog audio wave (source), the more accurately that audio can be reproduced. In addition, the more bits of data each sample has, the wider the range of the audio and the better clarify of reproduction is. While some pundits may disagree to the various benefits of HR audio, we believe that as our customer, you deserve the best quality that technology can offer today.
Do I need special equipment to enjoy HR audio?
No. HR audio is backward-compatible, meaning that if your current home and internet system is limited to 48KHz and 8 or 16 bit, that is how it will be reproduced. With future changes in technology, HR will become more and more integrated into consumer electronics, and you will be able to benefit from it even more.

PHOTO SLIDES & SCAN
\r\n
What formats do you convert?
We handle most popular photos, slides and negatives.
What scanning resolutions do you offer?
For photos we go up to 12800dpi and for slides and negatives up to 5300dpi, however, we can scan any resolution you want.
What files do I get?
Typically, either JPEG or PDF, however we can create any file type you need. There may be some additional charges.
Is JPEG the best format?
No, JPEG uses a lossy compression algorithm, meaning when you save as a JPEG image format you will never get the best quality. However, the quality is sufficient enough for most users and most purposes. Better formats would include TIFF and Targa (as well as others), but as image formats they are not as popular and are targeted more for professional use. Please contact us [here] with any questions about image formats.

PHONE TO FILE
\r\n
What devices do you transfer?
Since there are so many devices (smart phones, tablets and other mobile storage devices) in the market, we do not have a list of devices.
What do I get in return?
You can choose from a USB solid-state drive (such as a flash memory drive), DVD, high-performance drive, large external drive, LTO and even the cloud. You can also provide your own media. You can choose from a slideshow to a simple library of all of your images, movies and music.
What is the benefit of the phone to computer service?
The main benefit is long-term preservation. The ability to take photos and film movies on the various mobile devices is very ubiquitous with today’s super accessible technology. This means that most of us have a pretty large library of family videos stored on various devices. Those devices get obsolete very fast, with technology companies trying to get us to buy new devices every 1-2 years. The result is that without proper backup, some or even all of the media stored on devices could be simply lost forever. It is relatively easy to take your 30 years old VHS tape and digitize the entire picture. Transferring photos from your 10 year old phone, if you still have it, is probably going to be pretty difficult, if not impossible in some cases. That is why doing a proper device to computer file transfer is in our opinion the best way to preserve your family memories.\r\n\r\nPlease go HERE to read more about long-term storage.
What about the Cloud?
Cloud storage, which is a marketing term for storing digital content across various computer servers (hopefully, it is not stored on an actual cloud 😉 ), certainly has many advantages, such as ease of, and instantaneous use and the ability to share. That is why we offer cloud storage solution for your costumers. Cloud storage is certainly not without its limitations. Cloud storage may be limited is size, especially for video files. It can get breached. There is always the risk of periods of inaccessibility and even of critical failure and loss. Again, the Cloud storage option is certainly great, which is why we are offering it, but it should never be exclusively relied upon for long-term storage purposes.\r\n\r\nPlease go HERE to read more about long-term storage.

We offer a 300dpi and 600dpi document scanning option with OCR (optical character recognition) enabled. Please note that OCR can be disabled upon request.
What do I get in return?
We typically deliver the documents on a solid-state type drive and/or CD or DVD, depends on volume and size.
Do you offer other archival options?
Yes. If you have a critical mass of documents and need a critical long-term solution, we will certainly custom-tailor a solution for you. We can provide RAID 5 or 10 systems, drive cloning, LTO archival back ups and other options. Contact us here for more information.
Tell me more about OCR
Optical character recognition basically converts text from a document, which the computer is able to recognize, and saves it as coded text, so that it can be copied, pasted and made searchable. That is an extremely powerful tool, and we highly recommend utilizing it. OCR doesn’t always work and doesn’t always work well. Cursive text, handwritten text and partially obscured text may not translate correctly or at all. OCR works very well with typed text. You can always request us to send you a sample scan of your documents before making your final decision.
What shredding services do you offer?
We offer secure on-site shredding, on scheduled dates. We use a vendor that conducts the shredding on our site. The destruction of all documents is always 100% certified. All paper is then recycled.
What media can I shred with you?
Aside for paper, we can shred hard drives, tapes, DVDs/CDs, credit cards, film and more. Contact us here for more information.
